Forest-Packaging | Elk Grove Village, IL 60007 | www.forestpkg.com

Forest Packaging manufactures and designs more than brown boxes.

A niche, corrugated box company, the family-owned business specializes in custom corrugated packaging for end products, complete with graphics on the outside, such as a company name, logo or picture of the product inside.

Its point-of-purchase displays are designed to catch the attention of retail shoppers and help sell products on the shelf they might otherwise pass by.

“Computer technology allows us to design and manufacturer packages we could only dream of 20 years ago,” said Greg Kula, president of Forest Packaging. The company’s other capabilities include:

• Multi-color direct printing

• Specialty gluing

• Protective inner-packaging

• Automatic restocking

• Inventory programs

When a customer comes to Kula with a lucrative job outside of his capacity, he will refer them to a friendly competitor who has expertise in that area. “They love the idea you’re there to help them,” he said. “If you can really help a guy out and make his life a little better, that is what I think business is all about. Everybody can do better that way.” He also tries to save customers money through package design and reducing the inventory they carry at their factories.

Kula’s sons John and Jeff work with him at the plant. Kula refers to his older son John as “the go-to guy” for acquisitions of machinery and equipment. “John knows what will work and makes the most economic sense,” he said. “You have to be competitive. That is what drives people like us to buy new machines for quicker, faster, better products.” John also is a top salesmen who understands production as well as anyone in the business.

“Jeff sells our products in the field and brings a strong design background, which is critical with our business,” Kula said. “He helps customers in the field with the structural design of packaging, which depends on the type of products being put into the box and what the customer is trying to accomplish with it.” Jeff makes structural samples, prototypes to make sure the box suits a customer’s needs, before placing the order and running the job, Kula said. Also, Jeff always has great ideas for point-of-purchase displays and advertising boxes, packages that cleverly display products sales reps take on calls with them to entice buyers.
