Headquartered in Rockford, Barnes International is the largest manufacturer of machine tool filtration systems in North America. The company was founded in 1907 as Barnes Drill Company by Rockford resident Benjamin F. Barnes.Originally the company manufactured a line of drilling and tapping machines that were marketed primarily to the automotive industry. To meet the need for tighter automotive finish requirements, Barnes developed the abrasive process of honing for all types and sizes of bores. This provided a very precise surface finish and bore geometry. As precision honing technology progressed, it became apparent that consistently clean coolant played a major role in the process. This led to the development and introduction of the now world famous line of Barnes coolant filtration systems. Maintaining clean coolant is a high priority for manufacturers because unfiltered coolant can build bacteria and otherwise negatively affect product quality.Today, Barnes produces a wide range of coolant filtration equipment to serve the needs of grinding, honing and cutting machine manufacturers and end users. Over the years, Barnes has been awarded hundreds of patents covering major developments and innovations in all product lines. Barnes history of technical leadership has been and will continue to be a key factor in our success.Acquisition by the Gollob family in 1979 ushered in a new and exciting chapter in Barnes' history. This was followed by signing a joint agreement with a leading Japanese filter manufacturer which opened up an entirely new market; filtration systems for chip making machines. This put us squarely in the global arena and a name change to Barnes International quickly followed.Barnes operates manufacturing plants in Rockford and Bowling Green Ohio and maintains service and engineering centers in New Albany, IN and Brighton, MI. The Rockford facility includes 160,000 sq. ft. of fabrication and assembly space and includes 12 high-bay assembly bays. The 80,000 sq. ft. Bowling Green site includes 36 high bay cranes. Both facilities include 2-D and 3-D workstations.Today, Barnes continues to be a family owned and operated business that recognizes its employees are their greatest asset and basis of our success. The vision for tomorrow is growth through innovative product development and excellent product quality and service. We also continue to seek opportunities to grow. Our long-term strategy is to continue to build our sales within the industry while looking for additional companies that will add technology or products to our base. We continue to look for additional acquisitions to further this strategy.Barnes still leading the way after over 108 years of service to the industry.
