Spanning four generations, COZZINIPRIMEdge manufactures and sharpens blades designed for machines used to slice and grind meat and other foods. Its clients are original equipment manufacturers, and end-users, food makers and processors.

“The blade is the heartbeat of any machine,” says Ivo Cozzini, third-generation president and CEO. A specialty item, the blades, including involute blades which can cut up to 2,000 slices of bacon per minute, are used from the point of slaughter, to restaurant kitchens, supermarket counters and processing plants. The company also provides replacement parts, sharpening services, and the equipment and training for customers to do it themselves onsite.

Headquartered in Elk Grove Village, COZZINIPRIMEdge has distributors in 65 countries and locations in Germany, France, Spain, Denmark and Brazil.

Ivo Cozzini’s grandfather Giuseppe learned to sharpen knives in Pinzolo, Italy, the small agricultural town where he grew up. In 1905, he bought a pushcart and came to America, knocking on the doors of butcher shops and restaurants, offering his services first in Milwaukee and by 1907, Chicago. His son, Ivo’s father, joined him in 1931. By the 1950s, instead of sharpening knives onsite, he exchanged customers’ dull knives each week for ones that were already sharpened. When third generation, Ivo, entered the business, “We started dealing with commercial blades for manufacturers of food products, companies like Oscar Mayer, Hormel and many others that are always dealing with cutting edges,”. Still maintaining our old-world focus on excellent workmanship and customer satisfaction COZZINIPRIMEdge is continually developing new technologies to meet the demands of an ever-changing global market.

Ivo’s son Alex, a fourth generation Cozzini, is general manager of the Berlin plant.

Pinzolo is a ski resort now but it will always be the beginning of Giuseppe Cozzini’s journey with a pushcart, a trade and desire to live the American Dream.
